When it comes to purchasing a beat you will notice that most producers will usually have different licensing options. Whether its a pricing table on their website or the options that show when you go to click on a beat you like, these licensing options will determine the ways in which you can use the beat. Most Producers will have their own prices they determine when setting up their licenses, for example you can check mine out here.

…So what is the best license for you, the Artist?

  • Non-Profit:

If you are looking to use a beat for personal use, maybe to showcase your skills or to use for anything in which you do not make money, something like a non-profit license would be best for you. These are the cheapest option usually offering only the untagged MP3 file, and the price rage is usually around $20 or less.

  • Basic Lease:

If you are looking for more leniency on the things you can do with the beat, and higher quality audio like a WAV file, most producers will have something akin to “basic lease” as one of their options. This license will offer both the MP3 and WAV files, and grants you more ways in which you can use the beat. This license usually allows you to make money off of the song you make, albeit with a cap on the amount of copies you can sell. A non-exclusive option like this is usually the most popular among Artists looking to buy beats, and is generally around $30.

  • Trackout Lease:

the next option up from that will generally be something like a “Trackout Lease”. This license gives you even more options with what you can do with the beat and a much larger rage of music performances, streams and sales you can make money off. For example I offer the artist 1000 paid performances, 500,000 Audio and Video Streams and Broadcasting Rights for Radio and TV. This option is great if you are looking to not only make great money off your work but also gives you more flexibility when it comes to editing the beat such as changing around sections and mixing, as you will have the Tracked out stems MP3 and WAV files. This license is usually around $50 and up.

  • Exclusive License:

Finally we have an Exclusive License and while it can be expensive, usually around $200 and up, this option gives you the most flexibility, as you can use the beat however you want with an unlimited cap on everything. This option is great if you are looking to make an album, project or a song that you want to call yours; and want to have a beat that no one else will be able to use once purchased.
